Information

Individuals may only import narcotic or psychotropic drugs if they are personally transporting them.  

The quantities transported must then be compatible with personal therapeutic use for the duration of treatment provided for in the prescription or, failing that, for a duration of one month of treatment under normal conditions of use.  

Coming from a country that is not a member of the Schengen area:  

Principle: the quantity transported is compatible with personal therapeutic use.  

Proof to be presented to customs: the doctor’s prescription, the production of which is compulsory.  

When exporting to a country that is not a member of the Schengen area, the individual must be able to produce the original of the medical prescription.

However, as of August 1, 2015, for medicines classified as narcotics, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) will issue transport certificates only if the country of destination requires, for entry into its territory, a certificate from the competent authorities of the patient’s country of residence.

These certificates will be issued for quantities transported corresponding to a treatment duration not exceeding the maximum authorized prescription period (transport certificate issued by the narcotics/psychotropics department of the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products ).
