Getting Started

How to access medical cannabis in the UK

Legal on prescription since November 2018. Here is how the process works for new patients.

Check Eligibility

Most conditions can qualify. Use our eligibility checker or browse our clinic directory to find the right clinic for your needs.

Book a Consultation

A specialist doctor reviews your medical history. Consultations are typically online and take around 30 to 60 minutes.

Receive Your Prescription

If approved, your prescription is sent to a specialist pharmacy. Products are delivered directly to your door.

Cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs) have been legal on prescription in the UK since 1 November 2018. Only specialist doctors on the GMC register can prescribe. Whilst NHS prescriptions remain limited, tens of thousands of patients now receive treatment through licensed private medical cannabis clinics.
You need a qualifying condition that may be treated with cannabis. Different clinics have different criteria. If one clinic cannot accept you, another may be able to help. Start your journey here.
Yes, medical cannabis is available on the NHS, but only a small number of patients currently receive NHS prescriptions. The vast majority access treatment via licensed private clinics. Costs have reduced significantly and subsidised access schemes are available.
Private medical cannabis can be costly, though costs have reduced considerably over time. Subsidised access schemes are available for patients on low incomes, veterans, Blue Light Card holders, and others. View access schemes.

Under the Equality Act 2010, patients must not be discriminated against or prevented from treating themselves when necessary. Service providers must make reasonable adjustments. Find approved venues or your nearest consumption lounge.
